Massage Prenatal & Perinatal

Pregnancy is hard on the body; hormones are releasing to prepare for delivery.  Muscles are contracting in preparation.  Skin is stretching; cartilage softens to allow bones to shift creating space.  Your entire body is working overtime to protect you and your baby while he/she grows and develops.  It is an exhausting and taxing feat.

Prenatal massage can be soothing to an overworked and overwhelmed expectant woman.  With regular massage, pain is reduced.  Stress hormones decrease lowering your chance of complications. Circulation is improved providing more oxygen to your baby.

I’m having some issues; can I still have a massage?

Pregnancy massage can be beneficial to any woman during any stage of her pregnancy; however, there are specific conditions and circumstances where massage may not be advisable. These are called contraindications.  They are as follows:

  • You are experiencing frequent or extreme nausea, vomiting, or morning sickness

  • You are at high risk of miscarriage

  • You have a high-risk pregnancy such as placental abruption or preterm labor

  • You have any pelvic or cervical abnormalities.

If you are experiencing any of those conditions I will need written consent from your doctor before performing pregnancy massage.
