“It's up to you today to start making healthy choices. Not choices that are just healthy for your body, but healthy for your mind.”― Steve Maraboli, Unapologetically You: Reflections on Life and the Human Experience
Massage for Mental Health
How can massage help me?
Massage is more than just a rub down. It is a healthy and safe way to reduce stress and anxiety. Massage promotes healthy circulation, can reduce stress induced cortisol levels and adrenaline, and lower blood pressure to ease breathing and your fight or flight response. Once you are able to relax the body and mind can function better. Sleep is improved which will help keep the stress levels down even more. Finding a safe and comfortable place to let go of your frustrations can increase dopamine and serotonin bringing on a feeling of joyful calm.
Rapid breathing, tense muscles, elevated heart rate, nausea, pain, headaches, and abnormal hormone production can lead to more serious health conditions. Psychosomatic disorders, Anxiety, Stress, and Trauma can hold a person in fear, increasing levels of cortisol (a stress hormone) becoming toxic to the mind and body.
Massage is a great tool to have when facing the stresses of mental health disorders. Open yourself up to a new way of coping with gentle and caring guidance. We will explore different techniques proven to reduce stress while creating a safe and comfortable environment for you. Attune to You understands that some stages of anxiety and PTSD make accepting touch nearly impossible, for those cases other techniques can be applied that do not require hands on contact. Breath work, energy balancing and guided imagery can be used until you are ready. I will work with you, at your pace, to give you a pleasant and thoughtful massage.
I don’t feel comfortable by myself but I want to try a massage, is there anything I can do?
If you feel uncomfortable by yourself or you suffer from a condition where you have extreme episodes of emotion, anger, or confusion then I would suggest having someone you trust with you during your session. We can all work together and I can show your companion a few helpful massage techniques to reduce anxiety when you are having difficulties.
What if I am prone to crying?
Then cry. There is no judgment here. Massage has been known to cause an emotional release for some, particularly those that have been through a great deal or have been holding on to past pains without realizing it. A good cry is actually very healthy for you and your body. So cry away. However, if you feel uncomfortable crying around another then we can take a break until you feel you are ready to resume your session.
