Frequently Asked Questions
What is a massage?
Massage is the manual manipulation of soft body tissues (muscle, connective tissue, tendons and ligaments) to enhance a person's health and well-being. There are many different types of massage (called modalities) and just as many benefits.
What type of massage do you offer?
Good Question. I offer a wide variety of massage services, mostly focusing on pain relief and postural alignment. To reduce pain in the muscles I use Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) and Trigger Point Therapy. To decrease tension and release adhesions, Deep Tissue and stretching are best. To improve posture and muscle alignment I use Myofascial techniques. I also provide Swedish massage for relaxation and Sports Massage to athletic clients. To see a list of services click here.
What can I expect from a massage?
You can expect to be treated with respect in a professional and comforting environment. You can also expect open communication about your goals and how each technique will affect you. Our sessions are judgement free and private and you are welcome to discuss any issues physical, mental, or emotional. Click on the link to see some of the services we provide
What should I do before to prepare for my first massage?
It helps to be well hydrated for your session, so drink plenty of water the day before and the day of your massage. Some stretching may be necessary during your massage so dress in comfortable, loose clothing or active wear. If you are nervous or really tense from a long day, taking a nice shower or bath may help put you in a more relaxed mindset to receive massage.
What is a treatment plan?
After your first massage session I will discuss with you what was found in your posture and muscle condition. We will create a plan that addresses these conditions in order to progress towards your goals, this will be your treatment plan. This plan may include suggested number of sessions a month, self-care instructions, and recommended hydration. As your needs and goals change so to will your treatment plan. For those receiving pain management or support for mental health an evaluation on progress will be done after the 3rd session and every session following. If there is no progress or the condition worsens, further evaluation may be needed by your healthcare provider.
What is self-care? Why should I do it?
Self-care is the act of intentional and regular care of your physical, mental, and emotional self on your own time without the assistance of a healthcare provider. Some things included in self-care are proper hydration, stretching, muscle strengthening, resting, using ice or heat for injuries, meditating, and simple breath-work. Self-care is an important part of the work we will be doing. It will help to decrease recovery time, reduce pain, and keep the muscles more relaxed until your next session. Without self-care your goals in health may take longer to reach.
Where are the massage sessions held?
Attune to You is a mobile massage therapy service that travels to your location for added convenience. Services can be provided at your home, office, a fitness facility, at a venue, during parties, sports events, or in conjunction with a service you provide at an expo. Just give me a call and we can discuss all of the details.
How do I make a payment for my sessions?
We are currently accepting Cash, Credit Card, and Checks. A valid ID is required for use of Credit Cards or Checks. Please make all checks out to Attune to You.
Should I tip?
Tips for service, while a lovely gesture, is not necessary. However, classes to stay up to date with current techniques and provide our clients with the best service possible does get expensive, so if you would like to donate towards our continued education fund that would be greatly appreciated.
Can my child get a massage?
Of course your child can have a massage. It is completely safe and effective for all ages. We will accept appointments for children between ages 6 to 17. Persons under the age of 18 require a parent or legal guardian to sign a consent form and/or be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian for services. Parents are required by law to remain in the room with anyone under the age of 14. Online bookings cannot be made by or for any person less than 18 years of age. Please contact the office for further information. 18 year old's are considered adults and may schedule their own appointment.
Do I need to provide anything?
The only thing you will need to provide is a willingness to be open in communicating your health and your goals. Oh, and your body of course. Good tip: write down all of the questions you have and hydrate properly with water before your appointment. Remember that you and your health are important.
Do you have a cancellation policy?
My policy is for everyone to be understanding of others time. Emergencies happen, people get sick and sometimes you just aren't able to make your appointment. If you are unable to make your appointment, please call 228-731-0894 to cancel or reschedule that way I am able to give the time slot to a patient in need. Currently there is no cancellation fee. See about scheduling an appointment.
